Fire Fox Persona
Firefox themes, known also as Firefox persona, are a growing success as we speak. I bet if you are viewing this post via Firefox, you have it personalized. So, don’t you want to take that personalization to another level? Add it a picture with you, with your dog or with your favorite place where you spend time. Who knows, if you get good, thousands of people will wear your creation.
So let’s take it with the beginning. Firefox Personas are made up of two graphic image files: a “header” image and a “footer” image, which make up the skin of the Firefox user interface background.
Follow the steps bellow in order to design your Firefox Persona:
The header image is the image that you see above the page tabs, when you enter Firefox. It is actually the image behind those tabs and all other buttons.
What should you do?
- The image dimensions must be 3000px wide x 200px high
- Make the picture in a PNG or JPG file format
- Use subtle, soft contrast images and gradients. They work best
- the right-hand side of the image should have the most important information – as a user increases the width of the browser window, the browser reveals more of the left-hand side of the image
What you shouldn’t do?
- images must be no larger than 300kb in file size
- images over 3000px x 200px will not be approved
- never use artwork/logos/photography that you do not have the legal rights to use
- Do not use highly detailed images; they will compete with the browser user interface.
STEP 2: Creating a Persona Footer Image
The footer images are displayed as the background of the bottom of the browser window, behind the status and find bars. It will be anchored to the bottom-left corner of the browser window.
What should you do?
- The image dimensions must be 3000px wide x 100px high
- Make the picture in a PNG or JPG file format
- Use subtle, soft contrast images and gradients. They work best
- the right-hand side of the image should have the most important information – as a user increases the width of the browser window, the browser reveals more of the left-hand side of the image
What you shouldn’t do?
- images must be no larger than 300kb in file size
- images over 3000px x 100px will not be approved
- never use artwork/logos/photography that you do not have the legal rights to use – you will have to prove you have the rights if the content is questioned

Step 3: Testing your Persona Images
There is a way that you can test your newly designed Firefox theme, in an offline mode. That means you must configure Firefox Personas to stay offline a bit, so you can test a bit. Follow the steps bellow:
- If you have Personas installed, click on the little fox on the bottom left of your computer screen and click on “Preferences”
- Ensure the box “Show Custom Persona in Menu” is checked and close the box.
- Click on the little fox again. Mouse over “Custom” in the menu and to the right find and click “Edit”
- Build your Persona using the upload fields and additional settings.
Step 4: Submit your Firefox Persona!
